This beautiful bird was just sitting on a fence on Stage Road. Wish I had brought my camera, but I only had my phone. Bet you don’t see that everyday.
Did the ride with Bryn, a friend at work. Later Jeanne and her brother Alan joined us from Woodside. It was a beautiful day for such a ride.

That peacock was right near the machine gun skeleton, right? I think I’ve seen him before but never parading up on the fence like that.. fantastic!
Sorry I couldn’t make this ride – I would love to have done a big ride this weekend as a final prep for next weekend. I’ll have to take whatever my legs have into the ride.
BTW, some hints Paul Nam passed along..
– don’t linger at the mountain top rest stops – the less time you spend at altitude the stronger you’ll ride (except, of course to eat ice cream at the last rest stop!)
– be very careful descending – many riders will take the wrong side of the road while climbing making the descents dangerous at times – same is true for climbing: watch for those descending too fast and needing more road
– don’t drag your brakes – tires exploding from rim heat buildup is common!
Hope I see you out there!!
Hi Patrick! Hope you had a great time in Anaheim! I’m sure your strong legs will feel very well rested by the ride. Many people would taper two weeks prior anyway. Oh, hey, thanks for sharing the great tips! If we missed each other on the ride, we probably will bump into each other post ride. See you in a few days!
